A Study on the Corrective Effect of Facial Asymmetry by Traditional Korean Medicine Treatment, Including Temporomandibular Joint Balancing Therapy (TBT)

This study statistically analyzed the effect of Korean medicine treatment, including temporomandibular joint balance therapy (TBT), on the correction of facial asymmetry through 36 clinical cases. Through pre- and post-treatment facial photographs and head X-ray analysis, changes in soft tissue and hard tissue were quantitatively evaluated, and as a result, statistically significant improvement effects were confirmed in most facial asymmetry indicators. In addition, concomitant symptoms such as temporomandibular joint pain, headaches, neck/shoulder pain, and bruxism also showed a tendency to improve together. This study presents objective data showing that non-surgical Korean medicine treatment can be of practical help in improving facial asymmetry, and is a result demonstrating the research capabilities of a Korean medicine clinic practicing evidence-based medicine.
