Publication of a paper on the correction of facial asymmetry that improved with Korean medicine treatment.
This study is a case report analyzing 5 cases of improved facial asymmetry through non-surgical Korean medicine treatments, rather than invasive treatments like surgery or orthodontics. Treatment was performed 10 to 14 times, applying a combination of acupuncture, Chuna manual therapy, functional craniosacral therapy (FCST), craniosacral therapy, and intraoral corrective devices. To compare before and after treatment, changes in soft tissues and hard tissues were quantitatively evaluated through facial photo analysis and head and whole-body radiographic image analysis. As a result, deviations of the facial midline, tilting of the eyes and oral commissure, and asymmetry of the mandible and cranium significantly decreased on average, and accompanying symptoms such as temporomandibular joint pain, headache, and shoulder/neck pain also improved. This study suggests that for muscular, soft tissue, and functional facial asymmetry, non-surgical Korean medicine treatment can be an effective treatment alternative along with improving systemic balance.
